2002|RALLIES SAFARI RALLY KENYA |
>> EVENT DETAILS

| Location: |
Nairobi, Kenya |
| Start: |
Thursday, 11 July 2002 |
| Finish: |
Sunday, 14 July 2002 |
>> EVENT DESCRIPTION
The Safari Rally in Kenya is not a rally; it is an awesome adventure that spans across the most hostile place on earth, the Rift Valley.
This is the car breaker of the season, the team doctors and physios are in full swing for the crews at the service parks for the dehydration and the bone jarring pounding that the bodies take. For the first time the rally will take a compact route on closed roads. In this rally the crews utilize a spotter helicopter to spot not only animals like Zebras and Buffalo but also to inform the crews of the oncoming traffic. The cars, like Greece, are built to almost “tank spec” with the suspension crews working over time. At every service, all the suspension is replaced and then overhauled, only to be put back into the car at a later time in the rally. The road conditions are varied, there are massive open spaces and then the crews are on a knife-edge tiptoeing down a valley with massive drops on either side.
The distance is inconceivable, the people are incredible, the conditions are unbelievable and the rally, well the rally is magic! |
